The information you will find in this section are highlights of research commissioned by WorldAutoSteel that summarise automotive steel performance advantages. When the collective findings of the research represented here are placed in the context of a real-world mid-size sedan, evidence shows that replacing former conventional steel designs with optimised Advanced High-Strength Steel designs will, on average, gain:

  • 21 to 25% reduction in body-in-white weight,
  • 9% reduction in curb weight,
  • 5.1% reduced fuel consumption,
  • 5.7% reduced life cycle GHG emissions (CO2 equivalent) and,
  • Little or no increase in manufacturing costs.

Oliver Hoffman, Head of Sales/Engineering Technology at ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG, talks about steel and the processes that are being pursued to continue the industry's environmental performance improvements.

Jody Shaw, Manager-Automotive Marketing at U.S. Steel Corporation, talks about the benefits of steel from a life cycle assessment basis
